03-20-2017 (Monday) Eric Returns to Salem

Chad and Abigail are ready to head back to the fundraiser; he tells her he needs to talk to her first, about his feelings for Gabi.  She thinks he wants to leave her for Gabi, until he tells her he is ready to cut Gabi out of his life; Abby doesn’t understand how he can do that if he really loves her, but he insists he loves Abigail more.  He says his love for Gabi will fade, but his love for her is forever; she takes a breath.  He cries as he explains that he only fell for Gabi when he thought that she was gone and he thought she wasn’t coming back; she says she understands.  She says she will miss having Gabi as her friend; he says she doesn’t have to, but she says it would be too hard for him to cut her out of his life, if she is still in hers.  Chad leaves the room to do something and Jennifer comes in; Abby starts crying as soon as she sees her.  She tells her mom that Chad told her he is still in love with Gabi; she says it hurts so much just hearing him say it.

Gabi gets ready for her date with Eli; Dario gives her a hard time about wanting to impress Chad.  She says he wants to impress Abigail, so he’s not one to talk.  She admits that she is trying to move on from a hopeless situation; Dario says he is too.  Or, Dario says, if they work together, they could probably break Chad and Abigail up; Gabi says there’s no way.  He tells her to think about it, she could be with Chad, while Abigail cries on his shoulder until she falls in love with him; she says that won’t happen.  He says thanks; she tells him she means that Abigail is completely devoted to Chad, that’s all.  Dario asks her to consider the possibility.

Ciara finishes her letter to Theo and decides to take it to the loft, since he is out running errands (according to Claire); when she gets there, Claire is on top of Theo, on the couch, he is shirtless and there is an open condom box on the counter.  Ciara gets nervous and drops her letter; when she bends down to pick it up, they see her.  Claire jumps up and shouts at Ciara, asking what she’s doing; Ciara can’t say.  She ask why they are right there on the couch doing that; Claire asks if she’d rather they do it in the backseat of a car.  Ciara says she doesn’t want to think about where they should do it, adding that maybe they shouldn’t do it at all.  Claire tells Ciara its not her fault she was too messed up to accept it when Theo wanted her, throwing the fact that Ciara wants him now in her face; Claire gets upset because she told her that as a friend.

Maggie finds Ciara in the square and asks her what’s wrong; Ciara spits out, in brief summary, the whole situation.  Maggie asks if Theo knows how she feels; she says no.  She says she wrote a letter, but didn’t leave it when she saw them; Maggie tells her that she thinks she should give Theo the letter.  She tells Ciara not to ever be afraid of loving someone, and hugs her.  Ciara takes her letter in her hand once again.

Eric goes to see Maggie; he tells her that he is not going to go back to where he was.  But, he says, he wants to cobble together some purpose of life and needs to make sure that his being there doesn’t cause too much pain for her.  She stops him right there; she tells him that she has no desire for him to throw his life away because he son lost his.  Instead, she says, she wants Eric to get back out there and start helping people and if he can make this world a better place, that’s all the apology she needs from him.  She hugs him and tells him to stop this now; a tear runs down his cheek.

Theo comes back; Claire tries to get all romantic with him again.  She asks if he wants to finish what they started; he says he doesn’t know.  He says he thinks Ciara walking in on them was a sign that they aren’t as ready to “be together that way” as they think they are.  She stands up and asks what is up with him; he looks down.  He tells her the timing just wasn’t right, but assures her it will be soon.  She says she agrees; she says they should have taken more time to plan so that their first time would be magical.  She suggest they go away somewhere; he says okay, but he thought they would take time to plan it.  She says they are planning; she says they fill up quick though, so she will get reservations made right now to lock down a date.  Ciara slips into the loft and puts her letter in Theo’s backpack; Claire comes into the room and sees her.  Ciara doesn’t notice Claire behind her.  When she leaves, Claire takes the letter out and reads it; she says she can’t believe she would do this and calls her a backstabbing b*tch.  Theo comes in and asks what’s going on; Claire hides the letter behind her back and says, “nothing.”

Jen tells Abigail that she is too upset to go to a party; she offers to stay with her.  Abby says she is stronger than she was before; whatever happens, she says, she can handle it.  She says, Chad has a lot of faith in her, to tell her how he feels like that, so she wants to honor that; Jan asks if she is ready to give up Gabi.  Abigail says she is willing to do whatever he needs her to, in order to get past his feelings for her.  She goes to finish getting ready; Chad talks to Jennifer.  Jen tells him that she is proud of him for putting his life with her and Thomas ahead of everything else; he says he will do everything in his power to make Abigail happy.  They go to the benefit; they get slightly awkward when Dario and Gabi enter the club.  Abigail asks Dario where his date is; he tells her they broke up.  Chad asks Gabi if they can talk; she asks what’s going on.  He tells her he loves her.  Eric unpacks his box, setting up his new office in the Horton Center; he finds his Bible and sits down and starts reading.
