03-15-2017 (Wednesday) The New Horton

The Horton’s prepare to meet Eli; Julie worries whether he will like her double-chocolate cake or not.  He shows up and says double-chocolate cake is his favorite; Julie smiles.  Valerie tells Maggie that she regrets now that Eli will not ever get to know his father, and she’s afraid Eli may never forgive her.  Eli is introduced to Hope and Jennifer (who is showing a lot of silver in her hair with it all pulled back); he says he is slightly confused about how everyone is related.  They laugh and tell him he will catch up, adding that it only gets more complicated.  Julie introduces Eli to his great-great-grandparents via their memorial plaque and pictures; he tells her that he is very happy to be part of the family and happy to meet all of them.  Julie hugs him; Valerie shows up.  After she leaves, the family discusses their issues; Lucas admits that he mom kept him a secret from his dad too, and he chose to forgive her.  Julie stresses that the difference is Lucas got a chance to know his father; Hope hints that Eli could still get to know David too.  Eli looks confused.  The family starts telling stories about David, how he met Valerie, and the circumstances of the time (racial discrimination and such); but to David, love is love, Julie adds.  Eli thanks everyone for making him feel like a part of this family and says he looks forward to getting to know them all better.

Abe comes to visit JJ at work; he says he has a problem, apparently, with JJ and Lani dating.  He tells JJ not going to deny that they are involved, adding that he does not approve; JJ asks why.  Abe says he likes him, just not for his daughter; JJ asks him to explain.  Abe says she needs someone more mature; he tells JJ he’s a good guy and he cares about him, but he says, he cares deeply for his daughter and he hopes the two of them will respect his opinion on this.  JJ tells Abe that he will prove himself to him, given time.  Abe finds Valerie walking through the park and can tell that she is sad; she says she is having a hard time not having Eli all to herself.  He tells her that he understands how she feels and she says she doesn’t know what she would do without him; he says he isn’t going anywhere, and they kiss.

Gabi stops to drop Ariana off with Lucas for the evening; he says it’s his pleasure to watch her.  She says she might call Sonny to come spend some time with her; Ari calls out for Chad.  Lucas asks if someone has a crush; Gabi gets nervous, asking what?  He laughs, saying Ari is too young to be interested in guys; but then admits that he knows Chad loves Ari too.  Gabi suddenly says that “they” need to get going; she says she is taking Ari to ‘daycare’ now.  I’m confused.

Abigail asks Chad what he thinks of her work on his speech; he says he is going to have to let her edit all of his speeches from now on.  From a conversation about Thomas playing sports, Chad slips into the memory of Gabi teaching him to pitch; Abigail notices his distraction.  He apologizes; they kiss.  Chad gives his speech before the press, at the pre-benefit conference, saying DeMira is glad to be giving back to the community; he talks about how teamwork creates memories that last a lifetime, commitment, self-discipline, and loyalty.  Abby smiles.  Later, after he and Abby talk about what a success this whole fundraiser will be, he recollects those memories again, and a little more; then, glances back up at Abigail.  As she continues talking with the contributors, more memories overcome Chad, more details to the memories; Abby notices he is lost in thought again and asks what is wrong.  He tells her that he was taking a trip down memory lane with all this talk of Salem High; he gets nervous and dumps his drink on him.  He is grateful when Abby says she brought him an extra suit; he goes to change his clothes.  Gabi walks in on him; he falls down.  As she tries to help him up, and they laugh about it, Abigail walks in.

Ciara comes home; she says one of her teachers got sick.  Claire says the guy is an “alki” and Theo hints that isn’t cool.  He excuses himself, saying he has somewhere to go; Ciara tells Claire they need to talk… she says it’s not anything she’s done, but she’s not going to like it.  She reaffirms their friendship, and says she wouldn’t ever do anything to mess up her and Theo as a couple, but she has to admit that she still has feelings for Theo; Claire is obviously pissed.  She says she knew she wanted Theo back; Ciara says she doesn’t – she’s just trying to be honest.  She says its just hard living there with them; Claire asks if she is going to move out and Ciara quickly says no.  She just asks if they can tone it down a bit; Claire is insulted, but says they’ll try, then encourages Ciara to keep dating so she can find someone.  As they hug Ciara swears again that she would never try to come in between her and Theo; Claire smiles so fake, and says, “you better not” as she squeezes her in supposed friendship.

Claire goes to talk to her great-grandmother; she tells her what Ciara told her and says it felt like Ciara was putting her on notice because she wants Theo back.  Marlena tells her she doesn’t believe that’s it at all; maybe, she says, Ciara is just trying to be honest with her.  She tells Claire that she needs to think about Theo’s needs as well; Claire may have gotten the wrong idea.  She hugs Marlena and says that is the best advice ever; happily, now, she gets up and leaves.  Theo is home when Claire gets back, and she talks to him about taking their relationship to the next level; he asks her what that means, exactly.  She says she thinks they should sleep together; Theo looks uncomfortable as hell with that idea.
